Mr Duffy's Mixology Enterprise

I just received this missive from Mr. Duffy, regarding the ongoing, nay, interminable mixing of our long-awaited (by me) Extended Play Compact Disc:
So last night Mark and myself embarked upon a bit of light mixing. Mr Hammond's mysterious way with drums had greatly improved matters and I was able to concentrate on the guitars, which were sounding boxy and NOT EPIC ENOUGH.

After much experimentation Mr S and I discovered that the ENORMOUS BOTTOM END and generally elephantine chunkiness was causing a problem. The age old adage that a solo'd instrument may sound good but not sit in the mix was admirably demonstrated. Removal of excess and frankly irresponsible bass frequencies followed and lo! Restoration of hubristically large sound was achieved.

I have also taken the liberty of removing a great deal of artificial reverberation from the vocals, which renders the track less BOOMY and more MUSICAL. I suspect that the qulaity (NEW WORD) of the reverberative algorithm thus far exploited in our efforts is at fault in some ways too.

I am much cheered and encouraged by this. Mr Hammond! Get thee onto Eidolon and ting! We are in sight of the finish line!

Charlottefield + Bullet Union

After seeing Charlottefield on the last day of Brighton Live, I think I would like to see them again.

... which makes it all the more joyful that they are playing tomorrow (Thursday 20th Oct) at the Freebutt, with Bullet Union.

Gigs like horseflies.

YMSS + 65daysofstatic imminent

One week to go til Youth Movie Soundtrack Strategies and 65daysofstatic play the last date of their tour at the Rhythm Factory. Psyched.

And tonight, we have Morning Runner and The Race at Brighton's very own Hanbury Ballrooms. I got mildly freaked out at the weekend when I saw Morning Runner on the telly, cos their bassist has short, receding red hair, and a very similar guitar to me. Drummer Boy suggests that if I get a jumper like his, maybe we could support Coldplay too. (What's that? And some talent? Pah!)

Lapsus Linguae

So I'm off away from Brighton town tonight, and am feeling heartily sick at my appalling timing... for tonight (Friday Oct 14th), the legendary Lapsus Linguae play the Freebutt.

And to add a final kick to the teeth, supporting are Projections, who comprise ex-members of Cat On Form.

Gig of the month... gaaah.
